Technical Interview Tips
- 1Practice data structures and algorithms on LeetCode (Easy first, then Medium)
- 2Revise core concepts in your primary language or framework before the interview
- 3Think out loud — interviewers want to hear your problem-solving process
- 4If stuck, break the problem into smaller subproblems and talk through your thinking
- 5Always ask about constraints (input size, edge cases) before writing code
- 6Write clean, readable code — variable names matter even in interview settings
- 7After finding a solution, proactively optimise it and discuss time/space complexity
- 8Revise system design fundamentals for senior roles: databases, caching, load balancing, APIs
The STAR Method for Behavioural Questions
Use this 4-part framework to answer every behavioural question with clarity and impact.
Situation
Set the scene clearly. What was the context? What were you working on? Keep it brief — 1-2 sentences max.
Task
What was YOUR specific responsibility? Not the team's job — your individual role in the situation.
Action
This is the most important part. Describe the specific actions YOU took, step by step. Use first-person language.
Result
What was the outcome? Quantify it if possible. What did you learn? How did it affect the team, product, or company?
Common mistake: Candidates often skip the Result. Always end with a concrete, quantified outcome — that is what makes your answer memorable.
Remote Interview Tips
Test Your Tech
Check your camera, microphone, and internet connection at least 30 minutes before the interview. Have a backup (phone hotspot) ready.
Set Up Your Environment
Choose a clean, well-lit background. Natural light from the front is ideal. Inform household members not to disturb you during the interview.
Dress Professionally
Dress as you would for an in-person interview. It signals professionalism and also puts you in the right mindset.
Manage the Awkward Silences
Video calls have slight audio delays. Wait a beat after the interviewer finishes before responding to avoid talking over each other.
Pre-Interview Checklist
Check off each item as you prepare. 0 of 12 completed.
